A catarratto from untopped barrels!
Muffato is a table wine born almost by chance, following the Jura model, but with nuances similar to those of Marsala wine. This wine dates back to 2013, when, after an excellent and abundant Catarratto Guanciabianca harvest, In 2013, the year of birth of this wine, there was an excellent and abundant harvest of Catarratto Guanciabianca and, not knowing what else to do with the remains of the production, it was decided to fill up a barrel.
During the years that followed, the barrel – almost forgotten in the cellar – has never been topped, thus allowing mould and flore to form on the surface, naturally protecting the wine.
This resulted in a wine that reminds the typically oxidised Marsala with hints of sweet vanilla and a warm, dry and slightly salty taste.Serve at a temperature of 16°-18° paired with aged or blue cheese, or by itself as a “meditation wine”.
